We really enjoyed visiting most of the national parks in Hokkaido—beautiful and very interesting. We made two small changes to the itinerary—we added a day in Sapporo and another at Daisetsuzan National Park. Both were good additions.
Lodging
Although we usually don\'t stay in large hotels, we found these \"modern Japanese-style\" hotels to be very nice. We particularly liked the amazing onsens and buffet breakfasts (and sometimes dinners).
Food
We really liked the variety of food at the hotel buffets.
Guides
We had no guides in Hokkaido.
Pre-Tour Handbook
The itinerary we received was very complete and super helpful. The \"Gaijin on Getas\" handbook was also helpful, although it was about 10 years out of date.

Tour Transportation
We were glad we rented a car for one week of the Hokkaido trip because we could get to places, like trail heads, that would have otherwise been hard to get to. Of course, the parts using public transportation were amazingly efficient—we love this availability in most of Japan.
